Fermentas is a corporation specializing in the discovery, production and marketing of molecular products for life science research and diagnostic markets.
Fermentas produces and markets more than 700 high-quality products: FastDigest® and conventional restriction enzymes, DNA/RNA modifying enzymes, products for PCR, ladders/markers for DNA, RNA and protein analysis, nucleotides, transfection reagents, molecular biology kits.
Since 1975 Fermentas scientists discovered more than 30 percent of all known restriction enzymes. Corporation owns one of the biggest collections of restriction enzymes producing bacterial strains in the world. World’s first restriction enzyme with artificially engineered new specificity was designed by Fermentas scientists in 2001. In 2006 Fermentas introduced a new industry standard – FastDigest® restriction enzymes allowing performing DNA digestion in one buffer in 5 minutes instead of conventional 1 hour digestion.
According to market research company Bionformatics (USA, 2006), Fermentas is among the top worldwide manufacturers of restriction enzymes and the leader in European market of DNA molecular weight markers [3].
Fermentas’ products have been produced under ISO quality system since 1996. Currently Fermentas is operating under ISO9001 quality and ISO14001 environmental management systems. All Fermentas products are manufactured in new class D clean room facilities, qualified and certified as per EU directives and ISPE guidelines, which are prerequisite for GMP manufacturing.
